How long will my goldfish live?

Ok so i got 2 goldfish from a friend 2 weeks ago. she didnt want them. she said she got them at walmart. anyway, ivr had them for 2 weeks and i love them to death. they are so cute!! but ive been keeping them in a vase. the vase was pretty wide and tall though. they had a decent amount of room to swim and they had rocks at the bottom. i also fed them twice a day and cleaned their tank every other day. today i decided to get them a better tank. the tank i bought holds 2.65 gallons, has a filter, rocks, and plants in it. i also bought little bottles that clean out the water and keep the fish healthy which was recommended at the pet store. so im wondering how long my fish will live. i love them alot and i really hope they live fairly long.|||In a 2.5 gal tank they could randomly die at any time, or cling to life for 6 months or more, if you keep up the water changes.

This is a how big a common goldfish can grow in 18 months.

That fish is about the length of your whole tank.

Right now, you probably want about a 20gal tank for them, to give them some space to actually grwo normally. Then upgrade as they get to about 1/6 the length of the tank (~4")

Given the correct conditions, they could live for 20 years.

Ian|||in their current home, probably less than 2 years until they die from polluted water (from the waste they generate).

Goldfish kept in a proper home can live for decades and grow to 6" or much more (depending on the type you have). A proper home would be at least 10-20 times larger than what they live in now.|||If you want them to live get them out of the vase (a vase is for flowers not fish) and get a tank, at least a 30 gallon for now. And in the size tank you have you will be lucky if they live a few weeks

And goldfish should live at least 20 years|||They could live for 20-30 years but they wont. For them to live that long they would need a huge tank of atleast 100 gallons. Your fish may live a year, which is little|||In general it will live for 1 to 2 years tops
